Eight Months

Olivia, you’re eight months old today! What have you been up to this last month?

You are wearing 6-9 month clothes and still in size 3 diapers. You’re eating three solid meals a day and getting better at finger feeding yourself. You can hold your bottle and are drinking from a sippy cup on your own.

You can get yourself into sitting. You love having the freedom to move around without any help. You spend your whole day just moving from place to place. You get very frustrated when you can move around and it’s very hard to get a good picture of you.

You are pulling yourself to stand. You are also cruising the couch and can move from the couch to the loveseat. You’re getting brave and sometimes will let go when you’re standing. It makes mommy very nervous. You’ve also learned that you can touch the TV, which makes daddy very nervous.

You’re crawling on your hands and knees. Sometimes if you’re in a hurry you'll crawl on your belly but typically you stay up on your knees.

You are finding your voice and you like it. You’re talking a lot and very loud. Sometimes daddy and I can't hear each other because you're so loud.  You say mama and dada but not to us…yet.

You love to play peek-a-boo and are starting to initiate it. You also like to play footsies with mommy and drop toys from your highchair.

Your two bottom teeth are coming in at the same time, so you’re chewing on everything.

You don’t like to be rocked to sleep anymore. You have a lovie that you adore and refuse to sleep with anything else. You sleep 12 hours each night. Usually you wake up around 6:45 am and quietly play in your crib until we come get you at 7:00 am. Sometimes you’ll turn on your mobile for entertainment.

You weaned yourself off of the pacifier. Whenever we gave you one, you’d spit it out or throw it out of the crib. You’re becoming such a big independent girl.

You are testing your limits. When we tell you no you stop and smile at us. You can reach EVERYTHING and are very determined! You are not easily distracted.

Everyday your daddy and I talk about how lucky we are to be your parents. We can’t believe you’re already eight months old! We love you!

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday was a very low-key day for us. I officially moved the winter clothes up stairs. Olivia helped me reorganize the closets.

However I had to keep half of the closet closed so she didn’t see her Christmas present. Jesse says that’s where parents hide presents. Don’t tell Olivia, but this is what I got her. I’m so excited.

We also put up our Christmas decorations. Last year Jesse bought us a new tree. Unfortunately it is not pre-lit. Last year he put the lights on the tree and some how managed to one us two strands of lights, too bare for my taste. This year I put 13 strands on the tree. Perfect!

We put the Christmas tree in our dinning room again this year, far from the curious baby. Since the spider plant winters in the dinning room it was moved to the guest room. Unfortunately one of the spider baby’s did not make the move. Salem was beside herself with excitement. She ate the entire thing.

Saturday Jesse and I decided to go out to celebrate our nine years of marriage. So Olivia went to spend the afternoon with her grandparents.

Jesse and I wanted to do dinner and a movie. Unfortunately Chambersburg was not playing anything we wanted to see. Jesse volunteered to see the Blind Side, but he would have hated it. So we decided to do an early movie, The Fourth Kind, in Hagerstown and the come back home for dinner at the Orchards. So we drove the 30 minutes south and fought mall traffic, only to be told that their website listings were wrong and the movie isn’t showing until 10:45 pm! So we ended up doing some Christmas shopping and stopped at Chick-fil-A for a sweet tea. Yummy!

Then we had a nice relaxing dinner at the Orchards. It was very good and nice to spend some quite time with Jesse. Of course we talked about Olivia most the night. What else is there to talk about? Ha!

Sunday was a PJ day while I recovered from my cold. We made vegetable soup in the crock-pot and watched football. Olivia did her favorite Sunday activity and played with the sales ad.

We also threw away all of Olivia’s pacifiers. She was only using them to sleep, but this week she’s refused to take one. So no more paci. Our baby girl is becoming a big girl!

Now off to curl up on the couch with Jesse and watch the Steelers loose tonight. No Ben, no Troy, no chance :(

Thanksgiving morning was pretty quite at the Rockwell house. Jesse had to work for a couple of hours so Olivia and I watched the parade and looked at the sales ads. Olivia gets so excited when she sees sales ads.

Olivia also loves my wallet. It was sitting on the arm of the couch when I left the room. When I came back she was eating it. Every time we go shopping Olivia fusses until I give her my wallet. Soon she’ll be looking for money. Ha!

In the afternoon we went to Jesse’s parents for Thanksgiving dinner. Everything was so yummy. Olivia sat at the dinner table with us and ate a banana. Of course I had to remove anything that was in a four-foot radius of her. She has Go Go Gadget arms these days.

Susie, Jesse’s mom, got a little toy box for Olivia and cousin Brody.

Olivia loved playing with her new toys.

After dinner we watched football while Olivia got some loving from everyone.

Olivia loves Apollo!  She gets so excited every time he comes in the room.  He does not feel the same way.  She's tried to poke his eyes out a couple of times.  Poor Apollo.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m sad that we weren’t able to travel to SC this year. But I’m looking forward to our trip next year. I’m also looking forward to them visiting us next month!

I am so thankful for all the wonderful blessings I have in my life. I am truly blessed!

I've seen so many websites that sell baby tutus and I think they are super cute, but very pricey. So I was excited when I found this tutorial on how to make your own. It was so simple. Here is my sweet ballerina.

I’ll need to make it a little shorter next time so you can see Liv’s legs. She loved the tulle and didn’t want to get go of it when I tried taking the tutu off.  She's such a girlie girl!

Picture Day

Today we tried to have a photo shoot with Olivia so we could order our Christmas cards. It’s very hard to photograph a kid that doesn’t want to sit still. I’m sure it’ll get worse the older she gets. Right now Olivia is obsessed with eating her shoes.  I’ve got a lot of pictures of the top of her head. Ha!

Salem was jealous and tried to get in the picture.  She's hard to see since she's black, but she's on the top right.

Olivia got a goodie box from Mimi today. She got some super cute outfits. Olivia also got adorable hair clips. This one is a ladybug.

Isn’t precious? I can’t wait for Olivia to wear her turkey on Thursday!

Weekend Wrap Up

Olivia had another busy weekend of exploring and learning new things. We got our new gate, finally. Olivia likes to stand at the door and shake it.

Olivia also discovered that she can touch the TV. She tries to grab the icon on the right or the ticker when it scrolls across the bottom of the screen. We knew this day would come. So it looks like we’ll be buying some new furniture soon.

Landon let Olivia borrow his walker. She loves to chew on the toys. Ha! She has moved herself backward, but I don’t think on purpose. At first I was against using a walker, but now I like having another “ play station” for Olivia. It’s also light and portable so I can take it into a few different rooms.

Saturday I went to watch New Moon with my mother-in-law and sister-in-laws. So Olivia got to hang out with the guys and watch the Penn State game. Olivia loved playing with Apollo and cousin Brody. Since Jesse had her, the only picture we have of that night is the one I took before we left the house.  Jesse had trouble with the tights, so Olivia did not come home in this outfit.  Poor guy.

This morning I went to get Olivia and found this…

I’m amazed! Two weeks ago she learned how sit up in the crib now she’s standing! She’s also getting very good at squatting and picking up toys.

I tried to take a video of her walking along the couch, but she just stood there and stared. I think she thought it was a camera. Olivia also got to try out her new cart cover. I really like this one, because it covers the entire seat area. I can also attach her toys so she has something to chew while we shop.

Olivia’s new car seat has been sitting in the dining room all week. I think I’m ready to make my appointment to have it installed in the car, but we’ll see.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We did!

Our Furry Friends

We have two cats in our lives. Salem came to live with us in 2004 when she was just a few months old.

Salem LOVES Jesse, tolerates me and hates everyone else. My poor mother-in-law is terrified of Salem. Salem does not have any problem letting you know if she’s not pleased. Jesse says she’s just misunderstood. She’s not afraid of anything, except our cat door. Ha!

Salem loves to eat grass, clean up messes, meow everytime you open the fridge and obsesses about our spider plant.

Our other cat isn’t ours. My brother-in-law’s cat, Soma came to live with us temporarily. That was 2 ½ years ago. She also loves Jesse.

Soma is a very sweet cat. She loves sitting on our sun porch, can sleep anywhere, and always puts the trash she finds in her water bowl.

We recently lost our first pet, Lil’ Hurt a few months ago. Jesse and I adopted him the day he was born and he was a faithful companion for ten years. He loved me the most. Lil’ Hurt would always curl up in your lap, make a motor sound when he walked, cry if he saw the bottom of his food bowl and jump under the sheets when you tired to make the bed. He was a sweet gentle soul that we miss everyday.

Surprisingly Salem and Soma have adjusted very well to Olivia. Of course all Olivia wants to do is play with them, but they run away when she gets to close.

Today I’m thankful for fall leaves. I love them! At our house we have three oak, one maple, and one magnolia tree. They are big beautiful trees. Every fall we have a sea of leaves. For a few weeks we can’t see the driveway.
At the end of each November Jesse will blow the leaves to the road and our wonderful township will pick them up. No bagging required.
This year Olivia got to play in the leaves and I’m sure next year she’ll be jumping in the piles. Fall leaves are so much fun. Maybe next year we’ll invite some friends over for a leaf party.
On another note, one of these days we'll learn that there's nothing she can't reach. Ha!
