Project 52: Date 4

Our date for this week was a daytime date during Olivia's nap time.  Hubby and I watched US play in the World Cup.  I don't understand anything about soccer but my hubby is a fan.  So we curled up on the couch and watched the game (we DVR'd it).  Even though I don't understand the rules I still enjoyed myself.  Too bad US lost and was eliminated from the World Cup.  One of my favorite things about soccer is there are no commercial breaks and they never stop the play clock.  I watch baseball and football all the time and wish they were as efficient as soccer.

Our first month of dates are over.  We had to make last minute changes to some dates based on babysitter availability but I've enjoyed every one of them.  I'm really glad we decided to take this challenge.  It's definitely given us opportunities to reconnect.  Now I can't wait to see what Jesse has planned for us next month.  My parents are visiting this week so I think we might have an out of the house date.  Fingers crossed.

25 Weeks

How Big is Baby:  She's about 1 1/2 pounds and 13 1/2 inches head to heel .

Sleep: I'm still sleeping great (except for the potty breaks).  Plus I got to take two naps this weekend. Yay!
Best moment this week:  I spend Sunday night going through Olivia's newborn clothes and pulling out winter clothes for the pumpkin.  I love baby clothes.
Movement: She's very active.  I'm starting to see my belly jump around when she kicks.
Symptoms: Big belly :)
Food cravings: Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas
Gender: Sweet baby girl!
What I am looking forward to: My next OB appointment on Thursday.  I'm excited because my mom will be here and I'll get the orders to schedule my next ultrasound.  I can't wait to see her again.

I can't believe pumpkin will be here in 14 weeks!  I feel so unprepared.  I think it's because we already have 75% of the stuff we need from when Olivia was an infant that we've sort of ignored the other 25%.   We also can't decide on a name.  It's not that we can't agree, we just haven't found the one.  I'm glad my mom is coming for a visit this week because she'll help get us organized and ready for the pumpkin.

Lake Tobias

Saturday we drove to Halifax, PA so we could go to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park.  We got there a little after they opened and it was already packed.  We walked around the zoo and petting zoo.  Olivia loved looking at all the animals.

(I was worried about this ostrich.  He looked at Olivia like she was lunch)

After lunch we took the safari ride.  After we bought our tickets we saw a sign that the ride is bumpy and pregnant women should ride with caution. ha! That was an understatement.  It was a VERY bumpy ride.  Olivia squealed when the animals got close enough for her to touch them.

The safari ride was 45 minutes long and about 30 minutes into it Olivia had had enough.  She was tired of being held, tired of being in the sun (she refused to wear a hat) and made sure everyone (even the animals) knew that she wasn't happy.  So once the safari was over we called it a day.  Unfortunately she didn't take a nap in the car and her bad mood continued all the way home.  I don't know what could be worse than a toddler having a tantrum in a car.  Nothing made her happy.  Thankfully she took a nap when we got home and was in a much better mood when we went to Grammy and Pap's for dinner.

Every time we turn around Olivia has found something new to climb on.  Thankfully she hasn't tried the kitchen counters, yet.  ha!

Project 52: Date 3

Our date Saturday night was pretty laid back.  We started off the evening watching Shutter Island.  Even though I knew how the movie ended I still really enjoyed it.  Then Jesse and I sat on our back porch, talked and watch the fireflies.  It was nice just to sit, relax and talk.  It was a nice simple date!

Happy Weekend

We had a nice weekend.  Saturday morning Olivia's Grammy picked her up for a day at the park and lunch.  Olivia loved looking at the ducks.  Grammy also gave Liv ice cream for the first time.  She had a great time!

I had the privilege of co-hosting a bridal shower for my friend and co-worker, Heather.  We did an Around the Clock theme.  Everyone was given a time a day and their gift had to be something that Heather and Derek would use during that time of day.  We had some creative gifts.  I hope Heather had a nice time.  It was a great day for a shower.

Sunday was pretty laid back.  Jesse got to sleep in and relax.  He watched the World Cup and baseball all day.  His dream day! He loved that Olivia "signed" his card.  She also said daddy for the first time during lunch.  I think it made his day.
He refused to smile so Olivia smiled enough for the both of them!

24 Weeks

How Big is Baby: She's  12 inches long and around 1.2 pounds!
Sleep: This week was great.
Best moment this week:  Giggling about girl names with Jesse.   Unfortunately we still don't have a name picked out.
Movement: She's very active.  I'm starting to see my belly jump around when she kicks.
Symptoms: Round ligament pain.  Hot flashes.  It doesn't help that it's 90 outside
Food cravings: Frozen Chocolate Covered Bananas
Gender: Girl!
What I am looking forward to: My next OB appointment because my mom will be here!

Olivia First Day

Today was Olivia's first day at daycare.  Well, not really daycare, she's going to an in-home provider.  This morning she woke up on the wrong side of the crib and was not happy during breakfast.  But she got very excited when I said we were going bye bye.  When we got to Amy's I put her down she took off and never looked back.  She instantly started playing with the other kids and explored her new enviroment.  I don't think she noticed when I left.  I was happy that she was happy when I left, but I still cried a little.

This afternoon when I picked her up she was busy playing and it took awhile for her to notice I was there.  I'm so happy today went well.  Even though I'm still a little (emotionally) unsure about it, I know we made the right decision.

Project 52: Date 2

Our second date night was something we both love to do.  Play board games.  It was nice not to really talk about anything and just hang out together.  The first game we played was Yahtzee.  Somehow Jesse had never played it before and he wasn't very good at it.  I dominated all four games.  At one point he accused me of cheating because I didn't shake the cup enough.  Ha!

Next we played Scattergories.  It's hilarious to hear some of the crazy answers Jesse came up with.  I felt so bad about Yahtzee I didn't really challenge any of them so he won both rounds.

Last we played my favorite game, Fraggle Rock Uno.  We bought it years ago at an 80's store in Myrtle Beach and play it all the time.  I've always loved Uno.  This was a wonderful date.  I'm sure we'll play board games at least once a month for our dates.

23 Weeks

How Big is Baby: She's  11 inches long and a little over a pound!
Sleep: It's been okay.  I usually wake up at 5:30 every morning.
Best moment this week:   I bought her some little Mary Jane socks.
Movement: She's very active.  I love to just sit and feeling her move around.
Symptoms: Round ligament pain.  Hot flashes.
Food cravings: I'm still obsessed with Cooper Sharp cheese.
Gender: Girl!
What I am looking forward to: My next OB appointment because my mom will be here!

We're starting to make our plans for the pumpkin's arrival.  I've been doing some online shopping for her and have found the cutest stuff.  I met some moody teenager girls this week and it has me very worried about having two of my own one day.  But we'll deal with it when the time comes.  Right now I'm just in love with my daughters.

Jesse and I can't pick a name.  We talk about it everyday but haven't found the one we love.  Right now my choice is Ella and his is Scout and we both hate each others name.   I have a feeling we've both agreed on a name but haven't realized it yet.  Thankfully we've got some time.

Today marks a big change in our lives.  As of today Jesse is home on the weekends.  When I went back to work after Olivia was born Jesse worked weekends so he could be home with her two days a week.  He was home Monday and Friday.  I was home Saturday and Sunday and we had a sitter come to the house Tuesday-Thursday.  This allowed Olivia to spend four days a week with her parents and us to afford an in home sitter.  It was very important for us that Olivia stay home her first year.  We're very happy with our decision but of course Jesse and I not having days off together caused stress in our relationship.

Now Olivia is 14 months old and we've decided to send her to daycare.  This was a very hard decision for us.  We've been praying, talking and planning for it for the past two months.  Now that Olivia is older we've realized that she needs to be around children her own age.  Since I work during the week I'm limited on play group opportunities.  Unfortunately the majority of activities take place on weekday mornings.  So starting Wednesday Olivia will be going to an in-home daycare.  It's a lady I've known for a few years and I know that she'll take great care of my daughter, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a basket case right now.

We've been talking to Olivia about going to Amy's and playing with friends but nothing I say is going to help prepare her for Wednesday.  I know that in time she'll love it but I don't know how to not make her feel like I'm abandoning her.  She's never stayed with anyone other than family so Wednesday is a double whammy for us.

Lately Olivia has had horrible separation anxiety.  In the morning when Olivia sees her sitter she start crying and clinging to me because she knows I'm leaving.  I don't know how she's going to react at Amy's house.  Even though this is going to be a very difficult transition for all of us we know that it's the right decision.  Not only will Olivia get to make friends but Jesse being home on the weekends will allow us to do more things as a family.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers during this transition and if you see me this week with bright red eyes please don't point it out.

Forward Facing

We've never had a need for more than one car seat since Liv stays home with a sitter during the week.  Now that she's getting older Jesse and I've been talking about getting her another seat.  Then two weeks ago a car seat was delivered to our house.  Liv's Mimi bought her a new Britax car seat.  It's very cute and very pink.  Jesse was a little unsure about having a pink car seat in his car but I reminded him that soon he'll have two of them in the car.

Today Jesse installed it in his car.  Now that Liv is 14 months he installed it forward facing (the one in my car is still backwards) then took her to run some errands.  He said she loved it.  Liv smiled, sang and talked the entire time they were out.  This weekend we're flipping the other car seat around.

Twice Blessed

I've been looking for a book about having a second child and found "Twice Blessed".  I was a little unsure about reading it because it got some mixed reviews but I only paid a penny for it on half.com so what did I have to loose.  Surprisingly I finished the book in two days.  It was a very interesting and easy to read.

She talked about how important it is to talk about a game plan for when the baby is born.  With Olivia we just sort of figured things out for better or worse.  She suggests that each of us make a list of what we thought worked and what didn't and the discuss how we want to work as a team.  This is definitely something we will be doing.  We never thought about what we'd eat the first few weeks home.  Thankfully our families kept us fed.  This time around I'm stocking our freezer.

I am a little scared because one of the biggest themes of this book is how hard it is to become a family of four but I hope with some planning and lots of communication it'll be a (somewhat) smooth transition.  At least for me and Jesse.  Poor Olivia is so young I don't think she understands what's going to happen in four months.  Maybe we don't really understand either!

Project 52: Date 1

Saturday night was our first date night.  It almost didn't happen because Jesse was exhausted and Olivia didn't want to go to bed but everything worked out.  Our date was very low key.  We watched Alice in the Wonderland.  Jesse picked up movie snacks so we had Kettle Corn and pumpkin whoopie pies.  The movie was very good.  Jesse said it was his favorite Tim Burton movie.  It was nice to snugging up and spend time together even if we didn't talk.  I can't wait until our date next week.  Jesse said he's already planning our July dates, but won't give me any hints.

Welcome Kaylee Marie

My cousin Jenny and her husband Troy welcomed their little girl last week. Kaylee Marie was 6 pounds 4 ounces and 19 inches long. Big brother Ryan wasn't excited about having a sister, but I think he's already over the moon.

Random Stuff

Olivia loves to help clean the floors.
Her favorite place in our dining room is our brick hearth.  No matter what we do she wants to hang out on it.
She's even discovered that she can stand on it and get books off the bookshelf.
Liv somehow got a cut on her cheek two days before we we're getting family pictures.  They've been rescheduled.
We got Liv a stool for the bathroom and now she's obsessed with washing her hands.
She also likes to open the shower curtain and loves to throw things in the tub.
Poor thing is always trying to put her shoes on but never can.
So she found a substitute for her shoes. Ha!

22 Weeks

How Big is Baby: She's 10.5 inches long and about 12.7 ounces.
Sleep: It's been okay.  I usually wake up at 5:30 every morning.
Best moment this week:  Hearing the baby's heartbeat.
Movement: She's very active and likes to kick my bladder
Symptoms: Round ligament pain.  Sometimes it's painful to move around when I'm in bed.
Food cravings: I'm still obsessed with Cooper Sharp cheese.
Gender: Girl!
What I am looking forward to: My next OB appointment because my mom will be here!

She's a Kickin'

I had an OB appointment this morning.  My doctor assured me that I have a very mild case of placenta previa and she's confident that everything will correct itself.  Yay!! My blood pressure is great and our little girl is happy.  Her heartbeat was 144.  She has become a very active little one.  Today she's kicked my bladder three or four times and even though it gives me a jolt I love every sweet little kick!!

Project 52: Date Nights

I ran across Simply Modern Mom and her Project 52: Date Nights and knew it was something Jesse and I needed to do.  Jesse and I have been married for nine years and since Olivia was born the dynamic of our marriage has changed.  We (of course) are 100% focused on our little one.  Over the past 14 months we've forgotten how important it is for us to say connected and date each other.  Our last date was our anniversary in November (I can't remember the one before that).  So I printed out the contract and talked to Jesse about it.  He is totally on board and happily signed the contract.  We agreed to:

  • Our dates will be Saturday nights from 8:00 pm-10:30 pm.
  • We rotate being in charge of date nights on a monthly basis.
  • Can’t do the same thing twice in one month.
  • No children allowed, if applicable
  • Must create a date-like atmosphere. No frumpy clothes or pajamas. Make it a special event. Mind the details. But most of all, keep it simple.
I'm planning our dates for June and we're very excited to start the challenge.  Right now we're planning at least one date out of the house a month because we'll probably never the leave the house again one the pumpkin is born.  Each week I'll post about our date and link up to Simply Modern Mom for more date ideas.  Happy dating!!

    21 Weeks

    How far along: 21 Weeks
How Big is Baby: Our little girl is 10.5 inches long and weighs about 12.7 ounces.
Sleep: I've been sleeping very well this week.  I still have to get up to use the restroom 3-4 times a night but then I go right back to sleep. Yay!
Best moment this week:  Talking to Olivia about her sister.  She loves to pat my belly.  I don't think she understands there's a baby in there but it's still sweet.
Movement: She's very active a night before bed.
    Symptoms: Heartburn
Food cravings: I'm obsessed with Cooper Sharp cheese.  I eat it a couple of times a day.  I've been craving boiled peanuts, shrimp and grits, fried catfish and okra, but I'm in the wrong part of the country for those foods :(
    Gender: Girl!
What I am looking forward to: My OB appointment on Friday.

    14 Months

Olivia, I can't believe you're 14 months old. So what have you been up to?

You are wearing size 12 clothes and size 4 diapers.  I think you probably weigh around 23 pounds.

You say mama, dada, cat, duck, hi and bye.  You try to say uh-oh and I think I've heard you say go, okay, here and thank you.  You say moo for cow and make a grunting noise when you see a dog.  You also know where your nose, belly and foot are.
You love to dance and sing along to songs.  You also love to talk on the phone (real or your hand).  You take a lot of important calls during the day.  When you hear mommy's phone chirp that I have a text message you bring the phone to me and say "hi dada".

You are always on the go.  You've stopped walking and run everywhere.  Now that the weather is nice you love playing outside.  You really like your swing and swimming pool.

You love Salem and wish she would be your best friend.  You are always trying to give her your toys, except you throw them at her and scare her away.
You love to have your picture taken.  Every time you see a camera you give a big goofy smile.

These past 14 months have been amazing.  Daddy and I love you more than words can every describe.

    Love, Mama
