Perfect Day

Over the past three days Jesse and I celebrated our tenth anniversary, Olivia started potty training and Emily is sleeping in her room (I'm in there with her).  Whew, we've been busy.  Lately life feels busy.  From the moment my feet hit the ground in the morning my day is nonstop.  At night as I reflect on my day I realize that even though I spent the day changing diapers and having pretend picnics, I've had a productive day.  I have two played out and peacefully sleeping girls, a happy hubby and a semi-clean house (I hope the Christmas elves finish putting lights on the tree).  It's been a perfect day.
Today Olivia is 20 months and Emily is 8 weeks.   I don't want to forget these precious moments.

I dread sunset.  I watch the seconds on the clock tick closer to my nightmare.  I rock, shush, swaddle, pat, bounce, try to feed, change her...nothing stops it.  We start the cycle again.  I rock, shush, change, pat, give her gripe water, bounce, swaddle her.  She finally quiets.  Then she makes a face and it begins again.  Jesse takes over and I sit in the bathroom and cry.  I'm helpless.  I take back over and we do the cycles over and over again.  Finally she passes out and we're done for the evening.  In the morning she'll wake up smiling and cooing.  It's our happiest time with her. Then sun sets and our cycles start again.

Two Join as One

Nichole is a daughter, sister, friend and aunt.  Today she becomes a wife. A year ago she met Andrew and they fell in love.  Then he asked for her hand in marriage.  Today they will promise to have and to hold from this day forward.
Their love and devotion for each other is inspiring and I'm honored to be a part of their joyous day.  Congratulation Mr. and Mrs. Beckham!

Brought to you by the Letter T

Since I've been home with Olivia I've tried to find meaningful activities for us to do instead of just random play.  After some googling I found some amazing homeschooling blogs.  They have some wonderful ideas.  Last week Olivia and I worked on some colors and shapes.  I was really surprised at how much she already knows.  So thanks to the help of Confessions of a Homeschooler,  1+1+1=1 and Oopsy Daisy.  I have a two week lesson plan in place for Olivia.

For the next two weeks we're going to focus on the letter: T, number: 4, color: orange and shape: triangle.  T stands for Thanksgiving and turkeys.

Yesterday we did a triangle collage
Had a T lunch- turkey, tomatoes, tangerine and toast
Wore orange (hence the Halloween shirt) and strung ziti on pipe cleaners.
We also made turkeys and played turkey games.  I so excited about all that Olivia is going to learn over the next two weeks!

On another note, it's been six weeks since this lovely lady joined our family! As you can see she's VERY loved!

Christmas Card

It's no secret that I love Shutterfly.  I've been a happy customer for years.  I use them for picture storage. What's great is my extended family has access to the pictures so they can print out their favorite photos.  I also love that  I can do one hour photo at Target with my Shutterfly account.   Each year I make family year in review photo books.  I've also been making photo books for major events in the girls’ lives.  Last year we made an adorable Olivia calendar and gave them to family for Christmas.

Since December is almost here it's time to pick a Christmas card.  Here is the card we used last year.  Shutterfly has almost 700 different Holiday card options.  That’s a lot!  Here are a few of my favorites.

I’ve always been a sucker for anything monogrammed.

I almost used this card last year.

I love the pink and green combination.  Maybe it’s because I have a house full of girls.  I think our wrapping paper this year will be pink as well.

I love this card.  It’s like a mini Christmas letter.  Jesse’s not a fan of the Christmas letter so we won’t be using this one, but I still love it.  If you want to read some nice Christmas letters check this out.

This card has a nice Christmas message.

So tell me what is your favorite Christmas card?

Not Ready

This is what I found today.  I'm so not ready for this! Any advice on how to keep her in the crib or better yet how to stop time so she doesn't grow up?

Ten on Ten: November 2010

Ten on Ten: Take a picture every hour for ten consecutive hours on the tenth day of the month.
Exhausted after being up all hours of the night
Sitting in her drawer while I cook breakfast
Sleeping during tummy time
I find Olivia without a diaper or pants at least five times a day
Dance hour
Nap time laundry
Just hanging out
Giving her sister a paci
Up to no good
Swaddled and ready for bed until her "witching hour"...

Project 52: Date 17-18

Project 52: Date Nights logo
Jesse and I have still been having our weekly dates but we've broken two of the Project 52 rules.  Our last two dates have been the same thing and Emily was part of our dates. We've been so tired lately that we've only been able to mustered up the energy to watch Thursday night tv.  We watch The Big Bang Theory, The Office and Destination Truth.  I adore Josh Gates.  I think he is hilarious.  Unfortunately since Emily has colic our dates have been long and stressful.  We each take turns trying to calm her down and end up pausing the tv more than watching it.  But we still push on and keep trying to have a date each week.  This week we'll try it again.

Emily had her one month well check today.  She weighs 9 pounds and is 20 3/4 inches long.  The doctor said she looks perfect, which we knew.  After talking to the pediatrician she confirmed what we've suspected...Emily has colic.   Unfortunately there is nothing we can do but wait it out.

Over the past month I've found myself dreading evening because I know that my sweet baby is going to be angry and inconsolable.  It breaks my heart every night to know that she's unhappy and I can't do anything to make it better.  Some night I feel like I cry more than she does.  Thankfully Emily is getting better and not crying as long each night.  I know that one day this will end.  I just wish it were tomorrow.

Our Sweet Girl

One Month

Dear Emily,

It's hard to believe that you're a month old.  It feels like you've always been a member of our family.  You are the sweetest little baby.  I love every inch of you.  As joyful as this past month has been it has also been difficult.  It has taken us a little longer to figure out your likes and dislikes.  You had a difficult time gaining weight after you were born.  It took you two weeks to get back to your birth weight.  For the first few weeks every night you would cry and scream for a couple of hours.  You've got a good set of lungs on you.  When you get upset you get very worked up and it's very hard for Daddy and I to calm you down.  Now before you get worked up you and I have a routine that helps you stay calm (most the time).  You no longer cry every night but often there are nights when you just don't sleep.  Every night this week around 6:00 pm you wake up and don't go back to sleep until midnight.  So we're working on that.

Despite the sleepless nights I wouldn't change anything.  I've loved all of your challenges and every minute we've spent together.  You have the biggest blue eyes.  When you're awake you love to just look around.  I love to hear you coo early in the morning when you're the happiest.  You're so strong.  When you're upright you can hold your head steady.  You don't mind tummy time.  In fact you usually fall asleep.  I think you'll be a tummy sleeper like me. You absolutely hate to be swaddled so we've stopped trying.  You love taking a bath and snuggling.  I love our snuggle time and could do it forever.  You never complain when Olivia is giving you the 100th kiss or pat of the day.  I think you'll be best friends forever.

Your Daddy and I love and adore you.  We're so happy you are part of our family and we are so proud to be your parents.  God has truly blessed us! Happy one month my love!
