Merry Christmas

Friday, December 23, 2011

Here's a glance at our week.

Emily rode forward facing for the first time. The girls held hands the while way to Grandma's house. I can't believe Target already has swimsuits out. Naptime. Grandma wore the girls out.
Emily fell and busted her lip. Thankfully it wasn't anything an ice pop couldn't fix. I love finding packages on our doorstep this time of year. Olivia and I made salt dough ornaments.
Wrapping Christmas presents. My sewing foot {is that what it's called?} blew a fuse. If you look closely you can see the smoking coming out of it. Out of frustration I organized the crayon box.
Christmas tree pizza {yeah, not so much}, snowman pancakes and cinnamon roll waffles.
Olivia went to see Santa. She took one look at him and walked away. I've noticed that shopping with a princess puts a smile on people's faces. Olivia got to ring the Salvation Army bell. It was the highlight of her day. Maybe we'll get her a part-time job next year.
Olivia got a new bed so we went shopping for new bedding. Despite my efforts to get her to choose nice shabby chic bedding she wanted princess. But I can live with it if she sleeps in her own bed. Only the cat slept in the bed.
My MOMS club had some Christmas activities for the kiddos. They watched a movie, made reindeer food and had a book walk. Olivia made sure she had her ballet slippers on so she could dance like a ballerina. When it was Olivia's turn to pick a book she picked the one we brought. We also had a cookie exchange for the mamas.
I hope you have a great Friday! Linking to InstaFriday

I can't believe it's already Friday. I feel like this week flew by. I'm way behind on my Christmas book advent posts. My laptop charger died and my laptop battery is dead and all my photos are on my laptop. So now my laptop is just sitting around collecting dust until we get a new cord. Ugh

Anywho, on to our week. These are Olivia's favorite ornaments {Tinkerbell, Ariel and Sugarplum fairy}. She loves to look and talk to them everyday. Thankfully she's been very good about not touching them.
Unfortunately the same doesn't apply to this poor ballerina. I think her dancing days are over.
Monday we had another playdate at the gymnastics school. Both girls love playing there. I love it to because they run off so much energy. I think we might sign Olivia up for a class this spring.
While I was Christmas shopping this caught my eye. I had no idea they were making a movie! I'm so excited I LOVE this series. Before I had kids I'd buy her new books the day they came out. Now it's a couple of months later {it's hard to find time to read}. Speaking of reading and finally figured out how to borrow books from the library for my Kindle. It only took me a year.
How do two small people make such a mess!?! Two hours later the room was clean and 75% of the toys were packed away. We have an insane amount of baby dolls.
The girls are addicted to goldfish. Olivia always wants the purple ones.
Oh, I just love her! See the barefoot over to the left. Emily ALWAYS takes her shoes and socks off in the car. Usually before we get out of the driveway.
I hope you have a great weekend!

Christmas Book {day 14}

The Nativity Play
We read the Nativity Play by Nick Butterworth on the 14th. It was a cute book about everyone preparing for a Christmas pageant.
We decided to have a play for our craft. I cut out Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and a lamb then attached them to empty toilet paper rolls. Olivia practiced her cutting and gluing as well. Once they were dry we put on our play.

Christmas Book {day 13}

Hallmark Christmas XKT4000 A Snow Day For Jingle Interactive Book
Our thirteenth book was A Snow Day for Jingle. The girls got Jingle the Husky Pup at the beginning of the advent season. So today they got another Jingle book. He is such a cute little puppy and both girls giggle when he "talks" to them.
For our craft Olivia and I used bells and pipe cleaners to make jingle bell bracelets. It was a loud but fun afternoon at our house.

Christmas Book {day 12}

Hallmark Promotions LPR7506 A Charlie Brown Christmas (An Interactive Book with Sound)
On the 12th we read A Charlie Brown Christmas by Charles M Schultz. What can I say, it's a wonderful Christmas book. It's a little wordy for Olivia so we just talked about the photos. She also loves pressing the buttons. Interactive books are great for this age.
We didn't do a craft today. Instead we did coloring sheets that work on shapes. Olivia does a great job identifying her colors and shapes. We're still working on coloring inside the lines. I got the sheets from 1+1+1=1.

Miscellany Monday

The girls had a special popcorn treat last week. Aren't they adorable? Moments later Olivia was complaining that Emily was eating her popcorn. Then she came over and ate mine. The grass is always greener.
The popcorn aftermath. And I wonder why I vacuum everyday.
Remember Olivia's cat bite? A week later she ran into our refrigerator and now has matching boo-boos. Band-aids have become fashion accessories in our house. Saturday she wore one on her forehead all day, just because. I think it's kinda cute.
Our Christmas tree is interfering with our cat's morning sun nap.
Have you ever seen a recipe that you know you have to try immediately? I did. Olivia and I made these cookies and oh my! They are so good. I think it's Jesse new favorite cookie. Not only were they good but they were very easy to make. {I love my little garlic man}
Emily brought me sunglasses to put on her. I just adore her.
Love her fashion! Princess night gown, pink leggings, blue princess socks, pink glitter shoes, blue polka dot coat, pink headband. Although I have to force her to wear a coat. She doesn't like that it covers up her dress. My rule is she can take it off in the store but has to wear it when we are outside.
Have you ever abandoned a shopping cart and walked out of a store because your toddler was misbehaving? I had to do that this weekend. It's so difficult to walk out because now I have to reschedule the trip. It's the second time I've done it {not the same store}. Hopefully she'll learn...hopefully.

Christmas Book {day 11}

The Little Drummer Boy
Our Eleventh book was Little Drummer Boy by Eza Jack Keates. It's a great book and Olivia loves drums.
Of course we made a drum to play along with the book/song. I wrapped an old baby formula can with construction paper and Olivia colored it. I was going to make drum sticks but then I found these sticks at the dollar store and decided to use them instead. Olivia loves to play the drum. Anytime she finds a stick she uses it as a drum stick so this activity was perfect.

Christmas Book {day 10}

Gingerbread Baby
Our tenth book was Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. It's cute book about a Gingerbread Baby that doesn't want to get eaten.

We did a couple of gingerbread activities. Since Gingerbread Baby got a gingerbread house we decided to make our own gingerbread house. I took the simple route and bought a kit. It was super easy and a lot of fun. Olivia loved decorating and eating the candy. Although she wanted to put her gingerbread baby in the house like the book. Maybe next year.
We also made gingerbread play dough. Olivia has become my kitchen helper lately. I measure while she dumps and stirs. I love the smell of the play dough. It almost makes me want to eat it...almost.
Olivia also made her own gingerbread man on Starfall. The game teaches you shapes and colors. I taught her how to use the mouse and she loves doing the slide shows and playing the games "all by myself".

Christmas Book {day 9}

Carl's Christmas
Our ninth book was Carl's Christmas by Alexander Day. So far this is Jesse's favorite book {he loves dogs}.
Our craft was making gum drop ornaments. We really enjoyed making them. While we worked on them we talked about patterns, colors and counted {and ate a few}. Can you tell Olivia likes purple?

Christmas Book {day 8}

OLIVIA Claus (Olivia TV Tie-In)
Today we read Olivia Claus. Of course we love Olivia in our house. Only our Olivia like purple {not red}.
We decided to make Santa pictures for our activity today. Olivia helped with the entire project. She practiced cutting while I made the Santa faces. We made one together then I let her make her own. I love her interpretation.

Christmas Book {day 7}

The Donkey's Christmas Song
Our book today was The Donkey's Christmas Song by Nancy Tafuri. This is my favorite book. All the animals sing baby Jesus a sweet song. The little donkey is worried that his song is too loud but the baby laughs in joy. Both girls enjoyed the book as well. Olivia likes sing along with the animals.
Unfortunately Olivia didn't like our activity. She just wasn't in a coloring mood. It's a really cute activity. You color, cut and glue a free standing nativity scene. I showed her how the animals stand up and she got a little excited but I think it's just too much for her to color at one time. She prefers drawing to coloring. But we keep working on it everyday. Maybe we'll have it done by Christmas. You can get your own nativity scene here.
