Family Photos {2011}

In October we met with Priscilla Baumgartner Photography for a family session. She was so wonderful and the girls adored her. Here are a few of our favorites.

Pinterest {kinda day}

My friend Ashley and her youngest came over for a lunch playdate today. It was a Pinterest inspired lunch. All the food was so yummy that I didn't get a chance to take any pictures.

First up, Ashley brought over a lemon blueberry loaf. Yum! It's very lemony and moist. I'm definitely going to make it myself.

The little girls fished for goldfish, ate royal crowns and then finished up with three minute apple pies.

I made jalapeno popper grilled cheese sandwiches for us big girls. Oh my! I will absolutely make these again. They were delicious.

After lunch the girls did a Pinterest inspired craft. They made hearts using a toilet paper roll.

I decided to continue the Pinterest theme and made baked spaghetti topped with fried onions. I didn't make layers like the recipe suggested. I just threw it all together and it was delish!

Have you made anything from Pinterest lately?

IceFest {2012}

This weekend our town had its annual IceFest. This was the first year the girls were old enough to go {and enjoy it}. So we bundled up and headed downtown. We met up with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephew and niece. Thankfully it wasn't too cold {41}. Unfortunately that meant some of the ice sculptures were starting to melt. The kiddos didn't seem to mind and we all had a blast.

Random Things

I seem to be in a blogging rut. Lately I've started tons of post but then decide to read instead. I've got a great housekeeping and tot school schedule, now I just need to work the blog into it.

Speaking of reading, I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in three days {this weekend}. Such a great book. I can't wait to read the other two.

I'm amazed at how easy the girls have been lately. Jesse was at a corporate retreat today and didn't get home until after bedtime. In the past that would've sent me into a panic, but tonight was easy peasy. The girls were in great moods and asleep by 7. Score one for mama.

All of these need their own post but I can't believe that Olivia is almost three, she now sleeps her own bed {yay!} and Emily is walking {double yay!}.

I'm trying to embrace my naturally wavy hair. I haven't straightened it all week. Unfortunately there is a fine lie between wavy hair and a frizz mess. I'm usually a frizz mess.

If mud puddle jumping were a sport Olivia would be a champion. She gets so excited when it rains. I make sure we walk slowly in the rain so she can jump in the puddles. I've learned that life is happier when I say yes.

I recently read Money Saving Mom's new book. I'm very excited about implementing some of her techniques. Especially getting rid of clutter and using a cash system for groceries {eeck}.

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, so I'm giving myself 30 days. 30 days of working out. I'm on day five. Nothing fancy. Just making sure I get up and move. I've realized I'll succeed if I just take it one day at a time.

Once I finish this I'm going to start reading Sarah's Key. I love starting new books. The excitement and anticipation of loosing myself in a new story.

And because I think posts without photos are boring here's one of the girls from New Year's Day.

Miscellany Monday

Today marks the day we're getting back into our routine. I'm calling today our new year's day. After Christmas, our vacation and my father-in-law passing away, I'm looking forward to getting our lives back in order. I'm hoping Clean Mama and the declutter calendar can help steer me in the right direction.

In addition to getting organized, we're starting up tot school again this week. We're going to craft, read and learn about winter {and the letter W}. I just wish we had some snow to go along with our activities.

I found York Peppermint Pattie creamer at the grocery store this weekend. It's so yummy! I love mocha peppermint creamer but I can't find it after Christmas. So this is the perfect replacement. I've also made my sister jealous and now she's on the hunt for some down south.

Since Olivia got bit by our neighbor's cat, she wears band-aids as fashion accessories. On her forehead, foot and yesterday her nose. Bless her heart.

I hope you have a lovely Monday. It's not a holiday for Jesse, but it is for my most favorite working mama and that means coffee playdate. Yipee!

 2:30 pm- Taking advantage of the "warm" weather.

Saying Goodbye

I've been away from the blog much longer than I planned. After Christmas my parents visited us for a week, then we spent last week in the Outer Banks with Jesse's family. While we were in the OBX my father-in-law passed away. He lost his battle with cancer. He spent his last days at the ocean he loved, surrounded by his family. I'm heart-broken that he's gone but I know that he is at peace.
I'm hoping to get back into the groove next week. I've got lots of exciting things to tell and tons of Christmas photos share.
